We are ready to take the University to Greater Height – G.O.

The Vice-Chancellor, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Professor Ganiyu Olatunji Olatunde did make a pledge to the students of the University that his Management Team was ready to take the institution to greater height and meet the challenges of the 21st Century.

Professor Olatunde made this declaration during the inauguration of the newly elected Students’ Union Leaders for 2019/2020 academic session.

The event which took place on Wednesday, 19th November, 2019 at the Moot Court, Main Campus, Ago-Iwoye was witnessed by mammoth crowd of OOU Students and comrades from sister universities within the South-West geopolitical zone.

The Vice-Chancellor asserted that students from OOU would not only be outstanding in terms of academic excellence upon graduation, but they would also be role models in character and spirit of service to humanity.

Speaking further, Professor Olatunde disclosed that “since the beginning of this current administration in 2017, we have aspired to be student-oriented in our focus”.  He commended the leadership of the immediate past Students’ Union Government for providing good leadership for their colleagues. “At every point in time, we have found them very cooperative and prompt in reporting issues that could jeopardize the peace of the University” said, the Vice-Chancellor.

Earlier on in his welcome speech, the Acting Dean, Students’ Affairs, Dr. Sefiu A. Oladunjoye welcomed all students to the programme and thanked the University Management for providing the necessary logistics and adequate security to ensure that the Students’ Union election was free and fair, devoid of violence and flawless.  He, therefore, congratulated the entire students’ body for believing in the tenets of democracy as espoused by a former President of United States of America, Mr. Abraham Lincoln.

Speaking further, Dr. Sefiu Oladunjoye acknowledged the concern of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ganiyu Olatunde on issues bothering on welfare of students.  He disclosed that the speed at which the Vice-Chancellor attended to such issues was amazing.  The Dean of Students, therefore thanked the Vice-Chancellor for his fatherly roles in managing the excesses of the leadership of the Students’ Union Government.

Dr. Oladunjoye advised the new leaders of the Students’ Union to be alive to their primary responsibility of positively engaging the University on welfare issues and other matters that affect their colleagues.  According to him, “the idea of confronting management with a view to resolve issues has become obsolete.  “I wish to advise you to embrace discussion and negotiation as modern tools of settling matters with the University Management”.
Shortly, after the address of the Vice-Chancellor, the oath-taking was administered on the newly elected Students’ Union leaders by the Dean, Faculty of Law, Professor Charles O. Adekoya amidst pomp and pageantry.

The President, Comrade Awoyemi Oluwabunmi Michael and four Vice-Presidents namely:  Adeiga Adebukola, Vice-President1, Ogunakinju    Oluwaseun, Vice-President 2, Taniwo Taiwo, Vice-President 3 and Bakare Ibrahim, Vice-President 4 took the oath of their offices and the President subsequently sworn in other  members of the Central Executive Council.
